On 18 April 2023, Azerbaijan-France Chamber of Commerce (AFchamber) Tax Legal and Finance Committee organized a meeting between Shahin Baghirov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, and European Union companies.

Representatives of the Italian and Austrian Chambers of Commerce, the Polish and French Embassies, diplomats from the European Union Delegation, and more than 70 companies participated in the event.

The main purpose of the meeting was to obtain information on customs reforms and recent innovations, as well as to answer questions from invited companies.

Shahin Baghirov, the President of the State Customs Committee, provided information to the participants of the event on the Committee’s strategic goals, completed and planned projects, answered their questions, and listened to their advice and recommendations.

In his speech, Shahin Baghirov also highlighted the mission of the State Customs Committee, such as accessible and convenient customs services, optimal customs administration, convenient foreign trade relations, secure and easy trade, and professional staff.

The event started with an opening speech by Zibar Huseynova, the Managing Director of AFchamber. She expressed her gratitude to Shahin Baghirov for the meeting, and noted that the relationship between European companies and the State Customs Committee has been developing on the EU-Azerbaijan Business Forum platform in recent years. Continuous dialogue between companies and government agencies is essential for improving the business environment.

The event continued with the moderation of Arzu Hajiyeva, the Tax and Legal Partner at EY Azerbaijan.

The private sector evaluated positively the changes in customs policy and expressed their readiness to actively collaborate within the framework of prospective innovations and reforms.
